LinuxWorld San Francisco 2005: Look Out Oracle, PostgreSQL-Based Database Promoted to "GA" Status
General Availability Version "Runs Significantly Faster Than Most Other Databases, Including MySQL"

"We spent this summer's beta program ensuring the quality and completeness of our product, which is now 100% production-ready," said EnterpriseDB CEO Andy Astor as his company announced at LinuxWorld Conference & Expo in San Francisco the release of the General Availability version of EnterpriseDB 2005, the PostgreSQL-based product launched live (in beta) on SYS-CON.TV in May.

"Even before we finished, we announced software quality test results that were ten times better than MySQL's and a hundred times better than average commercial code," Astor continued.

"Combined with the aggressive pricing we have announced today," Astor said at LinuxWorld yesterday, "EnterpriseDB 2005 should be a top consideration for every enterprise, especially those seeking to leverage previous Oracle investments."

The release marks the end of the software's beta program, which began on May 23rd.

EnterpriseDB 2005 is an enterprise-class database built on PostgreSQL, the world's most advanced open source database. It delivers Oracle compatibility as well as performance enhancements over PostgreSQL.

More information and EnterpriseDB 2005 downloads are available from the company's website at www.enterprisedb.com.

EnterpriseDB is demonstrating EnterpriseDB 2005 in booth #552 at the LinuxWorld Conference and Expo, August 8-11 in San Francisco and has donated space in its booth to enable the PostgreSQL community to have a presence at the show, so community representatives will also be present in the booth each day.

Asked&Answered wrote: [from the EnterpriseDB website] The free license includes unlimited Web-based technical support. Enterprise software licenses and technical support are available in three tiers. The Silver tier, which costs $1,000 per CPU per year, provides a software update and patch service, unlimited email and Web support and business-day telephone support. The Gold tier, which costs $3,000 per CPU per year, adds faster response for email support and 24/7 telephone support. The Platinum tier, which costs $5,000 per CPU per year, adds a perpetual software license, a designated technical account manager, intellectual property indemnification and on-request production tuning.
